Ardent wine connoisseurs, Brookdale Estate is the pinnacle of the Rudd family’s passion. Here, Mediterranean varietals, a unique Paarl terroir and unusual winemaking techniques are brought together under the visionary hand of Tim Rudd, the owner, and winemaker Kiara Scott.
Brookdale Estate is also home to an elegant Manor House with sprawling gardens, a soon-to-be established restaurant and tasting lounge, and a natural paradise of indigenous vegetation. Since the Rudd family began their stewardship of Brookdale Estate, the valleys have been re-planted with 3600 indigenous trees, and mountain slopes have been re-seeded with wild Cape fynbos and flowers. With a small, well-trained team and a careful approach to land use and sustainability, bird and animal life remain rich and abundant. Every season brings different moods, different hues and different creatures.
Brookdale Estate is also home to a Tasting Room, Bistro and new state-of-the-art Wine Cellar, which overlooks a portion of the vineyards. Set on gentle slopes amongst our vineyards, The Bistro gazes across new vines and the mountainous landscape of our valley in the Paarl Winelands. Here, in this pastoral paradise, menus will move to nature’s rhythms under the culinary wisdom of Executive Chef, Gary Coetzee. Within the Tasting Room, guests can discover more about the Brookdale and Mason Road Wines, ask questions, learning about our vines and wine philosophy and sample our terroir-driven vintages.
Our Beginnings – A true Cinderella story!
The Rudd family saw opportunity and potential in what was, at the time, an overgrown and under-used area of land in the Paarl Winelands. Tim Rudd, proprietor, acquired the property with a clear vision in mind – to create a world-class Country Estate that encourages the freedom to be curious, to try new things, to test the limits and to pioneer new impactful paths.
Brookdale Estate is the pinnacle of the Rudd family’s passions. Here, Mediterranean varietals, a unique Paarl terroir and unusual winemaking techniques are brought together under the visionary hand of owner, Tim Rudd and winemaker at the time, Kiara Scott Farmer. The first step in this vision – produce fine and interesting wine blends using unusual varietals in a South African context. Before vines could be planted, 67 hectares of alien vegetation and overgrown vines had to be cleared in order to restore balance to the land. Indigenous vegetation and gardens were created in abundance alongside new, thoughtfully planted vineyards.
Brookdale Estate is also home to an elegant Manor House set against a dramatic backdrop of the Klein Drakenstein mountains, a refuge of wellness and tranquillity. When visiting The Bistro and The Tasting Room you can once expect the unexpected with menus crafted by Gary Coetzee and tasting experiences that serve to nourish your mind as much as your palate.

Thoughtfully conceived and founded on a personalised approach to each and every stay, Brookdale Manor House is a tranquil retreat in the Paarl Winelands. The Vineyard Suite offers private accommodation outside of the main Manor House in the building adjacent and is well suited to couples ’ wanting space, families with young children, and private staff complements. Thoughtfully conceived for discerning guests, modern finishes are balanced with classic Cape Dutch architecture.
