By the river
at Huka Lodge

Long regarded as one of the world’s most revered and inspirational luxury accommodations, Huka Lodge is set among 17-acres of established, parklike gardens along the banks of the emerald-blue Waikato River near Lake Taupō on New Zealand’s North Island.

With humble beginnings more than a century ago as a fisher’s camp with white canvas tents pegged along the trout-rich river, Huka Lodge has today secured its place as one of the country’s oldest and most celebrated luxury lodges.

In 2024 Huka Lodge closed for a carefully considered ‘centenary redesign’, and reopened its doors in March 2025, ready to welcome a next generation of global luxury traveller.

Body Elements: A variety of massages, including the “Hikoi Massage” (relaxation), “Huka Signature Massage” (therapeutic), “Awa Stone Therapy” (hot stone), and “Hapū Massage” (pregnancy).

Body Rituals & Signature Ceremonies: Comprehensive experiences like the “Ataahua Journey” (scalp and foot treatment) or the ultimate “Manuka Mawhiti” (exfoliation, facial, and massage using Manuka honey balm).

Dine

Dining at Huka Lodge is at the heart of the tradition of generous hospitality for which the lodge is world-renowned. Showcasing New Zealand’s finest, often sustainably produced ingredients and complemented by a magnificent selection of wine, the menus at Huka Lodge are daily changing and reflect the seasons and the environment outdoors. Meals are enjoyed in the elegant surrounds of the Dining Room with mesmerising views to the Waikato River.

Breakfast

A hearty country-style breakfast set up in the main lodge at Huka is a wonderful start to the day, whether it’s planned as full of adventures or for relaxing in the gardens by the Waikato River. Guests can look forward to fresh eggs, free range bacon and local tomatoes, mushrooms and greens, along with fresh juices, steaming pots of loose-leaf tea and espresso coffee.

Lunch

A light à la carte lunch menu is available for guests and may be enjoyed fireside in the main lodge or on the sun-drenched terrace overlooking the gardens and Waikato River. Local organic and free-range produce including chicken and beef are complemented by fresh greens, lodge baked bread and fine wines.

Dinner

Dinner starts with a relaxed drink in the lounge, and proceeds to a finely balanced menu bringing fresh local and regional flavours to the plate. Highlights include beef and lamb from the rolling North Island fields, Tora Crayfish and Mount Cook Alpine Salmon, complemented by native ingredients such as peppery kawakawa and pāua served as an amuse bouche in its kaleidoscopic shell.

Accommodation

Twenty Lodge Suites and two exclusive multi-bedroom owners’ residences, the Alan Pye and Alex van Heeren Cottages, dot the 17-acre Huka Lodge parkland, each privately set and opening onto verdant views of the gardens and beyond to the flowing, deep turquoise Waikato River. Ideal for house parties, the two owners’ cottages are designed to provide the ultimate Huka Lodge hospitality experience.
